The Insecure Writer's Support Group- Anniversay Edition

Hello and welcome to a very special anniversary edition of  The Insecure Writer's Support Group!  Thanks go out to our amazing founder Alex J. Cavanaugh and to this month's co-hosts Kristin Smith, Elise Amata, Suzanne Furness and Fundy Blue!  Thank you all!!!

Those of you who are published, on the road to being published or have experience with marketing are hopefully all submitting your entries for inclusion in the The Insecure Writer's Group Guide to Publishing and Beyond.  If you fall into this category but have not already submitted your entry please go to and submit your link to your 300 word or less entry so it can be added to the anthology and read by people like me who hope to one day publish themselves.

Seeing as I fall into the category of writers who have not yet been published I'm not including today's entry in the anthology- I'll wait for a time when I have some experience in that.  For now, I'm just going to talk about something that inspires me.

You!  I have long lived under the delusion that published authors were somehow more than human.  Be it their unimaginable talent which must have been gifted by a personal muse on speed dial or some vast sum of money that allowed them to give up work and other distractions in order to do nothing but write I always believed that there was something almost supernatural that made a published author published.  But because of this community I've come to learn that the only difference between me and published authors is good ol', unadulterated discipline.

You guys work- full time jobs 99% of the time.  You're moms and dads with kids running around your writing spaces and cluttering up your brain with everything involved in that all-important responsibility.  You cook and clean and buy groceries and fall behind on deadlines.  And yes, you sometimes also get distracted by you tube and facebook and the other black holes of the internet.  On the whole, you're just like me.

But unlike me, you take the time to write everyday.  You read and research independent publishing firms and self-publishing routes.  You help other writers market by hosting book tours and blog hops and everything else involved in marketing your own work.  You work your butts off, in other words, to get your books out there into the world.  And YOU- not those super-famous authors I placed on such impossibly high pedestals- inspire me.

So today, on the one-year anniversary of that wonderful source of so much inspiration, I say thank you to all of you published, self-published, soon-to-be published and aspiring authors out there for doing everything that you do and leading me to believe that I too will one day be among your ranks.  You guys rock!

  1. What a lovely post, Beverly. There are so many awesome writers and aspiring writers out there that our community is always filled with encouragement and support.

  2. It's a good, supportive group, and your contributions are always helpful and smile-making and encouraging.

  3. I couldn't agree more, Beverly! :)

  4. Such an inspiring post, Beverly! In my just over 40 years of living, I have never belonged to a more loyal, uplifting, and brighter group of people. There is nothing like our writing community.

  5. And one day you will be one of those authors!
I admire those who push through with kids and everything else added to their plate. It can be done.

  6. You'll have your day, Beverly! I know it! :) This was a beautiful post.

  7. What a lovely post! You've really cheered me up today Beverly :). I think I need to remember this more often - I tend to think of the glass as being half empty, but I'm going to do my best to remember your message in future :). We'll get there one day!

  8. It's a simple formula. Write something. Make it the best you can do. Get it out there. While waiting, write something. It's like the song that doesn't end. No magic but imagination. :-)

  9. The writing community DOES rock! ^_^
When life knocks me down, it's this community that helps me pull myself back to my feet. So beautifully stated, and you're one of the reasons why the community is so awesome.

  10. Great post! It's easy to find inspiration in this awesome group! :)

  11. This was hands down the most inspiring post this month. Your words are kind and very accurate. The authors who have been there, done that, are such a great reminder to why we're all doing this thing called writing.

I cannot express how much I appreciate you taking the time to read my WIP. You are exactly the kind of person I was praying/hoping for and I thank you. So much.

(also, love your comment greeter. Feel free to call my comment George ;P)

  12. Thank you for this wonderful post, Beverly! It just lifted my spirits! Happy writing!

  13. This was such a lovely post, Bev. It really touched me to read it. And I agree with SA's comment above - I've never belonged to such an amazingly supportive group before and I'm so grateful we are all here together. :)

Thank you for your comment! I will love it and hug it and pet it and call it George. Or, you know, just read and reply to it. But still- you rock!
