The adolescent viewpoint which seems so obviously stupid and naive is based on pure, unadulterated ignorance of life. That doesn't mean is isn't stupid and that his death wasn't just as avoidable as every other teenager who killed themselves in absurdly avoidable ways. I can see a lot of my own thoughts and feelings about the book in your review!

In the end, though... I don't want to side with the people who would call McCandless a "Darwin award", but there was something odd about how many close shaves he had, and yet he continued to insist it was all on purpose and he knew what he was doing. Remember the part about how he lost his car? It seemed to me that while he was communing with Mother Nature, Mother Nature was yelling at him, "You need to go back to the city, kid, or at least take some survival courses, 'cos you're making me out to be a lot nicer than I actually am."Katherine Hajerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08270232675026751342noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5575209851731621303.post-30742481907804893432014-07-31T13:39:39.090-04:002014-07-31T13:39:39.090-04:00Hi, Beverly.
